Letter #6: Superheroes are Real

Dear Amigo,

A few days ago–in Letter #2–we talked about stories. Let’s chat a little more about that.

In his introduction to the graphic novel Kingdom Come (published by DC Comics), Elliot S. Maggin says that superheroes are real.

Superman is real, just as real as Wonder Woman or Santa Claus.

All these things can be called real, Maggin claims, for the same reason that all stories and metaphors are real.

They are a very real impact on our lives and on our culture. In fact, if you’ve listened to my podcast, then you know that I strongly believe that story is at the very core of the human experience.

But we’ll talk more about that another time.

Until tomorrow…

and stay crispy, my dear Amigo,
